(October 9, 2012) – Mayor Pedro E. Segarra announced today the release of federal grant funds to the Department of Health and Human Services for Hartford’s Elderly Nutrition Program. The grant, awarded by the North Central Area Agency on Aging (NCAAA), will expand the nutritional programs provided through the City’s senior centers.
Currently, the City of Hartford manages two senior centers that provide a number of services including computer literacy and nutritional education. The grant will allow for the extension of the nutritional services to offsite locations. The City initially requested $500,000 and was awarded $96,000.
“I am pleased by the steadfast focus of the Department of Health and Human Services in securing this grant,” said Mayor Segarra. These funds will go towards benefitting hundreds of seniors in our community who are often times caregivers for their immediate and extended families.”
