(June 19, 2012) --- Mayor Pedro E. Segarra issued the following statement after being notified that the City of Hartford has been awarded a $10 million dollar TIGER IV (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) Grant.
"This is terrific news for Connecticut's Capital City, and I want to thank all of the City staff who invested so much energy and time in this endeavor. Our TIGER IV application was comprehensive, detailed, and will dramatically impact future development in Hartford, which is the region's economic and employment core, in several positive and lasting ways. More importantly, this grant will further leverage several major investments already underway, including CT Fastrak and the New Haven-Hartford-Springfield commuter rail project. As a result of our collaborative approach with critical stakeholders, including Governor Malloy, Senators Lieberman and Blumenthal, Congressman Larson, the Connecticut Department of Transportation, MetroHartford Alliance, Connecticut Transit, the Greater Hartford Transit District, the Business Improvement District, and many other others, we will significantly improve and modernize several distinct and unique areas of Downtown Hartford and take a noteworthy step forward in making The iQuilt Plan a reality."
ABOUT HARTFORD'S APPLICATION:
Hartford's proposal focused on the transit elements of the City's One City, One Plan vision – with a specific focus on job creation and economic revitalization for Connecticut's Capital City and the region overall. Hartford's Intermodal Triangle Project, which will solidify the intermodal link between Union Station and Main Street, is comprised of four integrated elements, which will improve the livability, sustainability, and economic vitality of Downtown Hartford by strengthening the intermodal transportation linkages to workplaces, housing and cultural destinations.
The four elements of the plan are:
1) Union Station – Regional Intermodal Hub
2) Bushnell Park North – Complete Green Street
3) Asylum/Pearl – Transit Priority Streets
4) Main Street – Complete Transit Stree
