Partnership with Connecticut Department of Public Health To Address Low Birth Weight and Infant Mortality
(May 2, 2012) --- The City of Hartford Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), in partnership with the State of Connecticut Department of Public Health Healthy Start Program, invites all Hartford residents to come together on Thursday May 10, 2012 to celebrate Hartford Healthy Families.
This event will be held at Pope Park located at 30 Pope Park Highway, Hartford, CT from 10:30AM to 3:00PM.
The Healthy Families event is part of a citywide health and wellness education initiative and the Healthy Start program's purpose is to address health disparities in low birth weight and infant mortality. The program aims to engage low-income pregnant women with prenatal care services, increase inter-conception care, increase screening for perinatal depression and connect them with a medical home.
"Our partnership with the Healthy Start program is a perfect example of how to leverage resources to maximize services for Hartford residents," said Dr. Raul Pino, Acting Director of Health & Human Services.
The Healthy Families event the event is for mothers, fathers, caretakers and their children. The goal is to raise awareness about health services that are available for Hartford residents and to increase participants' knowledge on the utilization of these services to benefit their health status.
Previous events focused exclusively on women's health but this time HHS broaden the scope to acknowledge the importance that fathers and other caretakers play in the lives of children. Gay/lesbian families are welcome to attend with their children.
