MAYOR BRONIN RESPONDS TO SUPREME COURT DECISION ON JANUS V. AFSCME

HARTFORD, CONN (June 27, 2018) – Today Mayor Luke Bronin released the following statement after the United States Supreme Court ruled against AFSCME in the Janus v. AFSCME case.  The City of Hartford had signed on to an amicus brief supporting AFSCME.

“Unions fight for all the employees they represent, but they also play a broader role in standing up for the rights of working people everywhere,” said Mayor Bronin.  “The extraordinary and growing inequality in America today is one of our most pressing national challenges, and the Supreme Court’s decision is a serious setback in the broader battle for a more just and fair country.  Unions play a vital role in advocating for the voiceless, and in the wake of this decision we all need to fight even harder for fair treatment of workers – from raising the minimum wage to passing paid family leave.”
