STF Arrest/Dangerous Person off the Street

On July 13, at 12:03am, members of the Hartford Police Shooting Task Force reported hearing gunshots in the area of Garden Street at Edgewood Street. HPD also received a ShotSpotter alert shortly thereafter. STF investigators observed a silver Honda Accord bearing CT registration 233TPT fleeing the scene north on Garden Street at a high rate of speed. Due to the high speeds, the vehicle eluded officers. The Honda also matched the description of an earlier shots fired incident at Albany Avenue at Oakland Terrace (#14-22962).

Simultaneously, other STF investigators in the area observed a gray Acura fleeing the area south on Garden Street at a high rate of speed. The Acura was stopped on Garden Street at Pliny Street at which point a gunshot victim was located in the passenger seat. An ambulance responded and transported the victim to St. Francis Hospital. The victim stated the operator of a silver Honda Accord fired shots at her for no apparent reason. Based on evidence (spent .45 cal shell casings), the shooting scene was located at 593 Garden Street.

A general HPD radio broadcast was put out all north and south Hartford Police Officers to be on the lookout for the suspect vehicle, and an extensive vehicle canvass commenced. At approximately 1:10 am, STF investigators observed the suspect vehicle parked in the parking lot of 690 Albany Avenue. The Detectives took a position of surveillance and radioed for assisting units. Assisting STF units set up in the area as the operator, (Later identified as Accused/McCall), entered the vehicle after patronizing the corner store. The vehicle was boxed in and McCall was detained without incident. In plain view on the front driver's seat was a spent .45 caliber shell casing. During a further search, one live .45 caliber round was located alongside of the passenger seat. In the trunk, a double barreled sawed off shotgun was located.

McCall was transported to the HPD Major Crimes Division where he was interviewed. McCall confessed to shooting the sawed off shotgun on Albany Avenue at Oakland Terrace due to a fight at The Kabbalah House located at 1023 Albany Avenue. McCall also admitted to the shooting at 593 Garden Street, but stated he didn't mean to hit anyone. McCall stated the .45 caliber handgun fell out the window of the car, however, after an extensive HPD search, the firearm was not yet been located. McCall was charged with the listed charges and turned over to HPD Detention for booking and processing procedures.
