Report Nuisance ATV's or Dirt Bikes

In an effort to improve quality of life in our neighborhoods, the Hartford Police Department is looking to eliminate nuisance ATV’s and dirt bikes. This issue is easily one of the most complained about quality of life issues each spring and summer. We have made efforts to toughen the laws through a City of Hartford Ordinance (C.O. 22-120) regarding this issue. Annually, as in most cities, as the complaints come in, there is an effort made by the police in the spring and summer to get the ATV’s off the streets.

However, based on our pursuit policy, we cannot legally pursue these types of vehicles. The illegal operators are all too familiar with this and rarely pull over when approached by police. In Hartford, we rely heavily on our community to assist us in solving all types of crimes. We very much respect and value our community’s assistance. We are now turning to the community and neighborhoods to help us combat this nuisance ATV and motor bike issue.

We will always take information and tips from our citizens in any form, to include in-person citizen to officer, via telephone 860-722-TIPS, emails, etc. However, we have taken the extra step to harness social media by creating a Twitter page specifically for the purpose of locating illegal ATV’s and dirt bikes Twitter: @HartfordATV     The page will be monitored and information garnered will be forwarded to the area Community Service Officers, Patrol Officers and Traffic Division Officers. It can be an open twitter post or photo, or a direct message to @HartfordATV

We are well aware of the fact that the riders are in our parks and on our streets. But what we need to know specifically is where they are being parked, stored and garaged. We need addresses, photos and information from our community about where these vehicles are kept. We would much rather prevent the ATV from causing the nuisance beforehand, or after the fact, wait for an ATV to arrive home.

If you are tired of hearing that ATV or Dirt Bike driving up and down your streets, Please, join with us to quell this problem. Let us know where they are kept.
