Chief Reginald D. Freeman

On behalf of the dedicated men and women of the Hartford Fire Department, I welcome you to our website which gives you a brief insight into our day to day operations, priorities, mission, and overall commitment to our city and citizens. As the first and oldest Insurance Services Office Class 1 organization in New England, which was earned on February 1, 1991, the Hartford Fire Department is dedicated to continuously looking for ways to improve our services as an all hazards organization. Whether we are called upon to mitigate an emergency or we are attempting to prevent an avoidable incident from occurring through our Community Risk Reduction program, we serve to save.

We at HFD believe that proper preparation prevents poor performance. That is why we ensure that we make every effort to make data driven decisions by way of our monthly FIRESTAT meetings that are held at fire headquarters. This performance management program assesses both emergency and support services divisions, respectively to ensure that each division is functioning as efficient and effective as possible. Furthermore, we are proud to embrace a culture of accountability with short term goals being captured in our 3 year strategic initiative plan along with our efforts in the development of our department's long term 5 year strategic plan. This plan is being completed with input from both internal and external stakeholders.

"Commitment to duty, professionalism, and the pursuance of excellence" are very important to the members of the Hartford Fire Department. We take pride in providing an exceptional service to our citizens and visitors. Please do not hesitate to contact my office if you have any questions or need assistance in any way pertaining to your fire department. Thank you and be safe.

Yours in service,

Reginald D. Freeman
