Four Elderly Hartford Homeowners Receiving Much Needed Repairs

posted from a Rebuilding Together Hartford press release

(Hartford, Conn. – June 28, 2013) – On Saturday June 29, 2013, Four of Hartford’s neighborhoods will see the difference a day can make as more than 50 volunteers, from across Connecticut come together to perform exterior home and yard renovations for their elderly and low-income Hartford neighbors.

Rebuilding Together Hartford (RTH) is thrilled to collaborate with the City of Hartford’s Livable Sustainable Neighborhood Initiative (LSNI) to bring volunteers together to rehabilitate and improve the exterior homes and yards of low-income elderly homeowners at no charge.

“We are thrilled to partner with LSNI and help improve the homes and lives of low-income, elderly homeowners in the City of Hartford,” said Jodie Liddy, RTH’s executive director. “In one day, four grateful homeowners in Hartford will have their homes and lives changed forever, simply because the City of Hartford and generous individual volunteers are committed to making a lasting difference.”

One of the goals of this new collaboration is to help low-income elderly homeowners make needed repairs and improvements to ensure their properties do not become blighted. On a quarterly basis, RTH will work on four to eight homes with volunteers from all over the state.

“This is an excellent opportunity for our dedicated volunteers to become more involved throughout the year. With this collaboration, we should be able to help at least 16 elderly, low-income homeowners during our 2013-2014 fiscal year,” says Ms. Liddy.
