As an urban center, Hartford offers cultural, ethnic and racial variety within communities of West Indians, African Americans, Hispanics, Portuguese, Italian, Irish, French, Polish, Eastern European and Asian. Thanks to this diversity, the city can point with pride to its various neighborhoods, ethnic restaurants, cultural events and festivals, social clubs and community sports such as cricket. They offer city and area residents the opportunity to participate in and experience a variety of customs and lifestyles. Citizen groups and neighborhood organizations work to preserve the city's distinctive neighborhoods and their cultural heritage. The following describes each of Hartford's 17 different neighborhoods.
